What is BlueTooth?
BlueTooth is the name of the new wireless data communication system for electronic devices using very high frequency and low power radio signals to use in short range applications. The name BlueTooth is inspired from the mighty Viking King Harald Blåtand (bluetooth) who lived in Denmark between 910-940 AD uniting the Scandinavia and bringing Christianity and peace. This name was given to him due to his dark complexion, which was unusual to the Vikings and his love for blueberries that stained his teeth.
BlueTooth technology uses microwave range of the electromagnetic spectrum at 2.4 Ghz frequency that is reserved for industrial, scientific and medical uses. This frequency can be used without any licence in most of the countries.
This technology was first promoted by Ericsson and Nokia. Their first aim was to reduce the size of the mobile phones so that they can fit into the human ear.
Nowadays, they succeeded making BlueTooth transceivers that are smaller than the size of a matchbox.
